Dear Michaela,
In the summer of 2007, I participated in an oil painting and drawing program set in Siena, Italy.
During my first week in Siena, my close friend, Michaela, died during another study abroad program. Upon receiving this news, I took a walk around the town arriving at a viewpoint. I sketched, prayed, wrote Michaela a note, and thanked her.
The oil painting I prepared for the course’s final project is the view I sketched from that day. Included are excerpts of my note framing the view.
